Five questions with Saul Whitton, Recruitment Lead

Written by Aoife Anderson

As Recruitment Lead at Tines, Saul Whitton is responsible for identifying and fulfilling our staffing needs by coordinating with different team leaders on their hiring requirements. Saul leverages his experience and charisma to attract world-class talent, ensuring every part of our recruiting process, from the job description and interviews to onboarding, delivers the best possible candidate experience.

Can you tell us a little more about yourself and what you like to do in your free time?

After completing my university studies, I spent a few years traveling the world teaching in countries such as Pakistan, Lebanon, and Indonesia before finally securing my first job in agency recruitment in Ireland. Since then, I have had the opportunity to work in-house for some of the most respected names in technology, including Oracle, Salesforce, DocuSign, and Elastic.

Running has been a staple pastime and passion over many years - seven marathons and countless three-quarter and half marathons later - pounding the road continues to take up my evenings and weekends. I've discovered the joys and benefits of Pilates in the past year, which will hopefully prevent or delay any peripatetic-related injuries. I can be found on the pistes of Austria in winter, taking in the mountain vistas at a leisurely pace along with the odd hot chocolate.

What does a typical workday or week look like for you at Tines?

I turn my hand to all aspects of recruiting, from sourcing and interviewing to developing a headcount strategy and recruiting events.

Regardless of role, level, or location, it's energizing to talk to talented individuals about their career ambitions and outline how Tines can help them realize their aspirations. I'm biased but recruiting is the best job in the world! I assist the company's growth globally by hiring the best talent for every role we open. People are the cornerstone of Tines; employees shape the culture, innovate and create an environment where everyone can do the very best work of their career to date.

What's the coolest thing you've worked on to date?

Being able to hire so many new roles at Tines that have never existed before - both leadership and individual contributor roles - is exciting. Understanding the business needs and the value each position brings to the company is stimulating. A few recently opened roles central to our continued growth and expansion include Senior Design Researcher, Lead Legal Counsel in the US, Marketing Manager in EMEA, and Partner Development Manager in APAC. I'm proud to have been part of the Tines' growth trajectory so far - from 60 people when I joined in late 2021 to more than 150 employees just 12 months later.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out at Tines?

Every Tines employee is integral to our culture, growth, and success. Don't be afraid to contribute, your perspective will be listened to and valued. Voicing your ideas, suggestions, and improvements are welcomed and highly encouraged. I'd also tell them to enjoy the building of Tines. There will be few times in any career when you get to work with such caring, passionate, and hands-on founders and exceptionally talented teams on a best-in-class product that changes how the world is doing business today. You will have a genuine lasting impact on the company's success and direction.

Finally, moving swiftly and executing is essential; however, perfection is not necessary to move forward when working on projects, programs, and initiatives - the ability to reflect, be thoughtful, and iterate is what matters most!
